Topic: XenServer Exp Convert existing OS to VM
In the installation of XenServer it offers to convert your current OS to a VM is that likely to work or can I expect a disaster. Does this mean convert and existing VM to another one?

I believe it only Supports certain Linux operating systems. If you want to do it on a Windows box you need additional software. It does say its supported on Windows but you need to read carefully to establish exactly what they mean by supported.
I think Ill keep looking for an alternative way of doing that. Its a lot to try and figure out all at once but it seemed like a good solution if your server is already up and running.
You could try VMware converter its easy to install and runs in windows. You can use it to copy your current running OS to a VM. Which I am told is compatible with VirtualBox as well as VMware Virtual Machines.
That sounds like a rather useful piece of software, especially since it would enable you to keep things running during or fast after the move (or conversion).
I have said elsewhere on this forum but I have used Norton Ghost in the past. Pretty simple to just Ghost the drive and dump it in a virtual machine/drive.
How easy is it to make up a ghost boot cd? I have used it to do network installs using a floppy to boot the client machine, I suppose you could boot it from a Pen drive?
