Can I use a thin client for occasional gaming? I'm not talking about the latest 3D productions or anything that's hogging the system but rather about simple, old games. Thanks a lot.

I expect the biggest limitation on this would be the graphics capability of the client you choose. If you only want to play old type games buy a used console, they are very cheap now.

I was wondering the same thing, for network multiplayer games. There are a few oldies that I'd love to try in a multiplayer match, such as Quake 1 and 2.
Wouldn't the graphics be quite limited on a thin client, though? Or would the graphic capability depend on what was installed at the server?
I think it depends on what hardware they have installed on the thin client, not the server one. After all, the games run a local client on the computer, they can't all run on the server, streamlined, can they?
I'm not very keen on old games, really. Why waste time with them, when all these new, shiny, sparkling ones are popping up all the time?
Graphics isn't everything, Miriam, there are plenty of old video games that have brilliant stories and are incredibly entertaining. Just think the Fallout series, if that rings any bells at all.
Oh my god, I can't believe there's still someone that knows about Fallout! Man, that series was one of the greatest gaming legends of all times. That and the Baldur's Gate series...
I love the series too. Baldur's gate too, and Neverwinter Nights and Icewind dale. And yea, I wouldn't mind a bit of quake or quake 2 at the office, if it could work.
I would think the other option would be games that run in a browser. At least that way they would be relatively independent of the running environment-graphics and so on would already be low key. Have you tried flash games?
Flash games are a great option. There are tons of sites out there with flash games for free, too. I am always going to spend a half hour playing at gamepilot.net and finding myself sitting there two hours later. Of course, this is not on work time.
How about Myst? Anyone remember that? I loved that game. I actually still have the disks for it and tried to run it on my Vista computer. BIG MISTAKE. The graphics were so choppy and so was the sound.
I really should have an old computer just to play the old games. ![]()
I love flash games! They're simple and fun. Never heard of all the other games people talk about here, I guess I'm not such a big gamer after all, hi hi hi
I hate flash games. They're simple, shallow and boring. I remember Myst, it was an incredible game for that time, I think I'll dig it up from somewhere and start playing it again.
Well good for you, what can I say! Some of us actually enjoy flash games, and don't find them boring or shallow. So if you don't like them, try not to offend the rest of us, ok?
Horses for course and each to their own. Everyone has a dull lunch hour to kill once in a while and flash games have helped me out of a tough spot when that happened.
There's nothing wrong with a flash game here and there. It's not my favorite, but we all can't have the same favorites now, can we?
Although to kill some time, I will always play a flash game. ![]()
There's such a good range and variety of flash games now, and I know you won't get a deep and meaningful platform game going but there is a lot of choice. Most people should find something to like.
