Topic: Integration

What do you guys think about the concept of integration? For instance, every piece of machine ever built will be compatible to every other piece of machine and software ever built. As an example, playing PC games right out of the box, on a Mac. Or using Mac software regardless of the machine that runs it.

Re: Integration

I'd love it to happen. I have a PS3, and playing Xbox games on it would pretty much rule. There are a few games that will never arrive on the console, and I'd like to get my hands on them.

Re: Integration

From what I've read all over the place, that will never happen. You see, companies are trying to make a profit, to cut a share of the market as their own and so on. What you're talking about sounds like a socialist utopia. It ain't gonna happen.

Re: Integration

While it would be awesome from a consumer standpoint, I have to agree with Miriam here.  It will never happen as these companies are going to do what they can to see that you buy their games for their console system or in the case of computers, most manufacturers of the systems also sell software - they want you to buy from them.

Re: Integration

As much as I would love to see it happen, I doubt if it ever will.  I remember when Microsoft sued Apple for their dual core technology and Apple finally had to release it.  I don't think the two will be getting along amicably anytime soon.

Re: Integration

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!  Microsoft has a nerve demanding anything and I'm surprised a judge backed them up.  What happened to trade secrets and patents and stuff?

Re: Integration

Even as a consumer I don't want to see integration. I like the choice, I like the competition that it fosters. People fight to be the best, and that is a good thing.

Re: Integration

I agree, that is ridiculous on Microsoft's part. I know that Apple have been using dual core technology for a long time, I'm shocked, or would be shocked to hear they weren't first. I wonder if they were second, or just if Microsoft beat them to registering the patent.

Re: Integration

Apple was first and ran that way for a very long time.  Microsoft sued and Apple had to release their designs.  Funny also how Ipods outsell Zunes by a landslide also.  The Zunes keep crashing from what I have heard.  Does that really surprise us?  Everything Microsoft makes crashes, because they don't test it thouroughly before releasing it.

Re: Integration

Not the slightest bit surprised by that no. I wonder how Microsoft then, managed to steal the dual core design from Apple. They really must have been slow on the registration of the design.

Re: Integration

I'm not quite sure, David, but I did read fairly recently, that Apple is soon coming out with quad-core technology.  I guess Microsoft will be secretly trying to get that too.  wink
