Topic: Netvoyager LX-1000

From the research I have been doing, this model looks like it would be a good candidate for setting up a home network as I have been thinking of doing.  The price is only $131.75 in the US which is very reasonable but the features seem more than adequate for the tasks I would have in mind.

Re: Netvoyager LX-1000

This is one of the ones that I am considering also.  The price is definitely within the right range and it seems to have everything that we would need for my purposes.

Re: Netvoyager LX-1000

Right, this really would be an ideal set up for lower end needs and home networks fit that description pretty well. The price is lovely, it wouldn't break the bank at all to set up.

Re: Netvoyager LX-1000

It depends how many users you have. The client price is low but you still need the server, Server OS, licences, monitors and all that kit. The less users you have the higher the per user cost is. A new network with 2 users would be about $4500. At least thats how I figure it.

Re: Netvoyager LX-1000

Except that you could use a low end computer as the server, and be done for about $1000. Especially if you already have many of the input output devices that you need. The licenses in theory should come with the devices unless you are buying a blank, nothing installed.

Re: Netvoyager LX-1000

The licence you get with your PC is going to be single user, if MS you will need Terminal Services running, as far as I know it's only available on Windows Server.

Re: Netvoyager LX-1000

The client is at a great price and good enough feature wise. But think of all the money a server will make you pay, software and so on. You'll have to think it up really good if it's worth it or not.

Re: Netvoyager LX-1000

Can you use these clients to run virtual machines on VirtualBox ? If so this might be a solution for the small network. You would be without server authentication but in a small environment this could work. You would still have file and print sharing and internet access via the main PC.
