Topic: VMware Server on XP pro?

Can I run VMWare server on XP pro? I can't find that information on the site. As it runs within another OS I wondered if it needs to be a Server OS to work.

Re: VMware Server on XP pro?

From what I've seen you can but its not supported and you may have problems with multiple connections. If your just testing give it  a try. You might consider using Linux as a host for VMWare server.

Re: VMware Server on XP pro?

If you were going to build a Linux box for this wouldn't it be easier to just use VMware ESXi and then put your Operating Systems on that?

Re: VMware Server on XP pro?

I don't see why it would be that huge a problem honestly. It is after all, a virtual desktop, it should be able to do its own thing within whatever environment it is placed within.

Re: VMware Server on XP pro?

It should run fine on XP as a test to just have a go but if you intend to operate a propper small test network I'd find a suitable box and run ESXi. I cant see why you would use VMware server in a server environment for any reason other than testing.

Re: VMware Server on XP pro?

I have run both VMware server and Virtual Server on my XP Pro box but only Virtual Server works. I can't get VMware server to work at all. It's probably me but I can't be bothered to mess about with it.
