Its simply the difference between running your applications in side the operating system side by side sharing resources, or running them on the same operating system independant of each other and the system resources.
No, you don't have to look at Microsoft just because that is what you currently run. That's like saying that since you have Microsoft you can only install software that comes from them-its simply not the case.

That's not exactly what I was getting at. If you already have a fully Microsoft environment, and your exploring the possibility of using thin client, your obliged to include Microsoft in the equation or your Finance people will want to know why you didn't. I would personally prefer to use an alternative but I can't just ignore MS due to my own preferences.
I really don't see why the finance people would have any buying power when it comes to this. If there is an actual contract tying you to buying only MS stuff then it makes sense but otherwise I don't see why you would be 'obligated' into including them.

Your kidding right? In your company your allowed to just spend what ever you like and no one cares? Your not in Banking are you? We have to justify spending the companies money, we don't just get a free hand to buy what ever the latest fad is. I am not tied to buying Microsoft other than because its in the interest of the company to do so, assuming thats the case, which it may not be but I would be a total idiot if I didn't look there first, my whole staff are MCSEs.
