Topic: Linux Terminal Server Project

This might be of interest, the Linux Terminal Server Project apparently adds thin client support to Linux servers. Its free and seems to be well supported. www.ltsp.org

Re: Linux Terminal Server Project

Looks interesting first thing I looked at was compatibility with hardware, I didn't see anything that will exclude my kit at the moment. I think this is a system aimed at business users but Ill have to read on to see if its going to be useful.

Re: Linux Terminal Server Project

Most of these things are aimed at business users, but really if anything is going to suit a home or none business user it would be a linux solution. Home users are going to need cheap solutions, rather than costly licenses and are most likely to find that with linux.

Thats true but there is a cost to that, the domestiic or small business user will have to spend time learning how to run and manage a Linux solution. Even a home using an easy install Ubuntu distro has requirements that will need some leaning.

Re: Linux Terminal Server Project

I'm not sure that domestic users would have a need for this solution in any case, except where your testing and learning. If you wanted to run more than 1 OS then either run VirtualBox or duel boot. If you want to network then just share your current files on what ever system you already have. If you need a business type solution for a home business then there is a cost attached to that as there would be with any business solution.

Re: Linux Terminal Server Project

I agree, I setup all this stuff at home for fun before going into work and offering my advice. I have about 10 PCs running OS's and servers at the moment. But if I wasn't doing this for a job I doubt I'd bother with running servers at home, I'd just run sharing on Windows.

Re: Linux Terminal Server Project

Now there is a good reason for running Virtual Server on your PC. Even if you have old PC's I expect you could halve your boxs.
