Topic: HP Compaq t5135
This is the cheapest thin client that HP sells, is it really worthwhile? I am still kind of new to thin clients, and want to know what makes a $199 better machine better than a $499 machine.

I am quite new to this technology myself, but I think one of the major factors which effects the price of the HP range is the amount of RAM that the system has. The two most expensive systems both come with WindowsXP Embedded with SP2 pre installed, so presumably this also has a price implication
Found this which you may find useful:

Hope that helps
Does the amount of ram in Thin Client hardware make a huge difference, because my understanding was the central server did everything. I need to do some more research methinks.
The central server handles the processing, and storage for the user. The thin client still however needs to have the memory to execute the programs-the operating system for instance that is downloaded by the thin client will be loaded into memory and run from there (like any computer).
Prices are affected by such things as the speed of processor you choose, the amount and speed of memory (RAM) and external add ons like optical drives.
Right now this one is listed as only $149 on the HP website. This doesn't sound half bad except the limited RAM makes me a bit nervous. Even without the hard drive, can you really get by on only 128 mb these days?
It depends on the operating system you are going to run but yes. Software for thin clients doesn't take nearly as much as a normal OS does. I just read in another post that windows CE needs just 1MB RAM. If the OS uses that little then other applications surely won't use a whole lot more.
You can go by with a RAM of 128 only if you use a slightly stripped down Windows XP OS, with less features that the thin client won't really need. Or maybe use another OS, it doesn't matter as long as it's downgraded to actually do its job with the available RAM.
A lot of the work your OS needs done will be done at the server end and the client will probably survive on a lot less than you might expect. You need to check what your going to use and make sure what ever client you choose is suitable.
