Topic: Do you have to buy every upgrade?

A friend of mine who has a small but growing developing company is thinking of getting Fox Code Analyzer.  He knows I have been researching thin clients, etc,so he asked me a question about it but I'm unsure what the answer is.  Figured someone in here will probably know the answer.  He wants to know if he shells out the rather hefty price for this, will he have to purchase it again and again if it is updated or does the purchase price include upgrades as they come?

I don't use Xenocode but they seem to offer a discount for upgrades. I do not know how large the discount is, or if it even makes a dent on the large price tag, but can sign up with them and find out.

According to the Xenocode website, all products come with one full year of free upgrades as part of the initial cost of the product so he would have at least a year before needing to worry about it.

The other thing here is that by running software like this you are saving yourself money. The costs in administering a network like this are less-so that means you are more able to afford the updates.

I think the support only lasts for that year,as well, from what I can understand from reading their website.  I'm not sure I like the idea of paying for support after only a year.  I've seen other products with longer periods of free tech support so maybe it would be worth paying more for that.

It might be that you can pay more for the longer support periods. Just like with VMware, where you can pay for support bundled with the software, for up to three years. But of course the initial outlay is greater.
